HOW TO MAKE A FAN TALK
Place a piece of T-5 reflective tape on the 3 fans blades as shown. The speed of the Fan is 1500 RPM as verified with a Pocket-Tach aimed a one (1) piece of tape applied to the Center Hub. Adjust the Nova Strobe Flash rate to 3 time the running speed. 3 x 1500 = 4500 RPM. When you triple the speed to 4500 RPM all the blades will be superimposed on each other and the Fan will read “Hi” when viewed from the front. Try this demo on pulleys , shafts, couplings and multi-bladed fans.
Nova Strobe as a Diagnostic Inspection Light
As the fan is running view it from the side. You will be able to detect any “wobble” or misalignment of the blades relative to one another. A fan in good condition should have all three blades superimposed appearing as a single blade.
You can use a Nova Strobe to inspect for bent pulleys, flexplate blades, loose bolts, lack of grease, cracks and slipping belts.
