Laser Tacho Probe simplifies rotational speed measurement
LUYOR is launching the Laser Tacho Probe Type ROLS-5PW, which is said to make testing high-speed, rotational machinery safer and simpler.
A small, robust IP60-rated probe for contact-free speed measurement on rotating or reciprocating machine parts, the ROLS-5PW works by producing a voltage pulse from each rotation of a machine element. The probe is positioned so that its visible laser beam faces the test object, to which is attached a small strip of self-adhesive retro-reflective tape. This tape then backscatters the laser energy to a receiver that converts it to a jitter-free signal that can be input to a measurement or recording system.
The use of reflective tape means the probe can be positioned up to 70cm from test objects, so engineers can maintain a safe distance when testing many different types of high-speed machinery, encompassing everything from aircraft turbines to washing machines. The unit's compact size also makes it suitable for accessing machine parts contained within restricted areas.
LUYOR says the ROLS-5PW can operate at rotational speeds of up to 300,000rpm, which is sufficient even for supercharger measurements, as well as low-speed measurements down to standstill (dependent on the analysis system) for applications such as wind turbines and ship propulsion systems.
